Family House I, Charing, Kent, UK
Project Number: 132
Date: 2008-2009
Description: The proposal is for a new 650sqm, 2 storey family house set within a 2.5 hectare site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Kent Downs. The size and sensitive location of the proposal, combined with the Client’s desire for a modern design made the project particularly challenging. Following a long process of consultation with the planners and conservation officers, planning permission was granted for the proposal. In brief, the proposal includes 3 bedrooms and bathrooms, living, dining, kitchen, study, cinema, garage space for 4 cars and connected ‘annex’ accommodation including 2 further bedrooms. The accommodation is designed around a central terrace space with feature pool and planting. The design maximises views across the countryside with south facing elevations provided with solar shading to avoid overheating. The Clients keenness for sustainable technologies has also been investigated as part of the design with proposals including ground source heat pump, solar water heating and rainwater harvesting.
Stages: Feasibility, Planning.
Size: 650sqm.
Status: Planning Permission Granted, On Hold.
